Being an ugly duckling and being a prince charming are not mutually exclusive. At the same time, it behooves you and any male to realize that no one is entitled to anyone’s time and energy. There is a reason peacocking exists, and humans are not above animal displays of courtship. We are not beyond instinct, and while of course culture, money, and biology all have a say, we all have to do what works best for us. Courtship is an evolutionary (as well as cultural) way of attracting partners; it can be done with financial assistance but also is more about one’s mindset, consciousness, and finesse. Life is a journey for all of us, and remembering to practice gratitude over entitlement serves to help call in one’s blessings.
