Excellent points! Ha, although I’d say that I am personally obsessed with both sex and connection, and believe many other people are too. There is definitely a spectrum between monogamy, CNM, swinging, and other relationship structures. This reminds me of a joke that went something like, “What’s the difference between poly and monogamous people?”
“The only difference is that poly people are more upfront about the people outside of the primary relationship that that sleep with.”
I do know of many couples who are not poly but are swingers so they can have some fun and being that excitement back to their partnership as well. I think as monogamy and it’s mythos are deteriorating, we’ll see more forms of alternative relationship and living styles becoming more the norm, as is already happening. I’m glad we’re waking up collectively to the reality that monogamy is not only unnatural, but it’s often unhealthy, isolating, and not conducive for people to have long-lasting/healthy relationships or sex lives.
