While cannabis is being increasingly legalized and decriminalized throughout the U.S. as well as globally, it remains illegal for recreational use in Florida.

The question of whether or not to fully legalize cannabis in the state of Florida is on the ballot, so it will be determined by vote if Florida begins to follow suit more closely with the ongoing national and global shift to desigmatize and decriminalize cannabis.

There is a famous quote, attributed to an unknown source, “Freeom doesn’t exist if nature is illegal.” As many cannabis and earth medicine advocates and proponents have argued, and as I myself argue, how does it make sense for a naturally growing plant to be considered illegal, especially one that is now scientifically well-documented to have so many therapeutic and medicinal effects?

The laws regarding cannabis in the state of Florida are tricky in Florida, however. Medical marijuana is legal; those who need it must obtain a medical marijuana card and renew it every seven months.
