I think talk therapy is helpful, but it can only go so far. It hinges on a client and provider establishing rapport and the client trusting the therapist as well. More than talk therapy, I believe we need fixes to the large-scale systematic structures that are causing such widespread feelings of depression, anxiety, alienation, and hopelessness among men and women both. Earth medicines are re-emerging because they help us to release traumas and energetically understand ourselves and our traumas in a way talk therapy often cannot adequately do. But the need for supportive community, for people being paid a living wage, and so forth also need to be addressed. We need to start thinking of mental illness as a societal ill rather than the fault of individuals.
