I’m sorry, that’s awful.

As a child, I tried to fix my mother’s distaste for my presence by only showing her my “good” side — or as much of it as I was able. I couldn’t stand being in the same room as my mom unless I were perfect. Whenever I couldn’t hide my flaws (which was often), I would run.
