My Journey to 1K Followers on Medium

Once I hit 888 followers, I knew my first 1,000 followers on this platform would soon come.

You can see that it’s taken me literal years to reach this follower count.

My growth over the years reflects both how my writing has been inconsistent, how some articles have gone more viral than others), and how my growth might be related to Medium’s changing algorithms.

Nonetheless, it is a feat that I have earned, and for which I am thankful to have achieved. I still have not yet hit the milestone of earning as much as $100 USD a month, but I am working on it.

I’m learning with this platform a few things that help:

• Writing viral articles (for me this means articles that are more controversial, which is why I’ve come to embrace both the haters and those for whom my writing resonates
• Writing consistently (this I need to work on; writing and publishing articles consistently will help to maintain and raise follower count and engagement
