Further, these apps don’t screen for sexual predators or unsafe behavior, and even reported perpetrators who go against the app’s Community Standards can re-join such apps even after getting banned. Online dating apps are not about optimizing dating so much as monetizing people’s need for intimate relationships, leaving those who use such dating apps often fragmented and addicted, confronted by the paradox of plenty and the sad reality that dating apps have also facilitated the decline of deeper relationships and even basic courtship and human decency.
