Thank you for vocalizing this. Our culture (American specifically) not only normalizes violence toward women but often has also eroticized such violence toward women. I’m reading Rebecca Solnit’s latest memoir, “Recollections of My Non-Existence, and she discusses the challenge of living under such normalized misogyny while also refusing to be seen as or consider herself to be a victim. I hope we are approaching a time that will help men to become more conscious and mindful when it comes to their behaviors toward women, and where the shame of sexual assault and of naming it is increasingly placed on the perpetrators and not the victims.
