That is true. I do agree, coming from a background of historically being a people-pleaser myself, that learning to say no is important. At the same time, I do think there’s a lot of value in the, “it’s a no if it’s not a hell yes!” movement, especially as people and women in particular often feel compelled to say something like “maybe another time” to avoid upsetting, offending, or enflaming someone. It’s easier sometimes to say something non-commital as an outright rejection may be taken badly. So it’s important for those pursuing to understand when to back off, and that entails backing off if a “maybe” or “yes” is not clearly enthusiastic.
