This statistic of how many students cheat is huge, though sadly not shocking to me, as much as I wish it were. As someone who long worked in education, I can attest to the rising frequency of student plagiarism. But this also speaks to a larger problem - or two overlapping problems - that we don’t teach critical thinking or information literacy in a meaningful or holistic way, and that the academic model of learning and of doing research is outdated. The educational system is bloated and needs to embed critical thinking literacy skills into the core learning objectives.
