Yes, I think dating apps and hooking up culture have heightened the superficiality of relating to/“connecting” with other people, promoting instant gratification and eroding and the depth of relationships as well as the effort and courtship that men should undergo. With dating apps undermining “the thrill of the chase” and helping guys to hide behind screen and behave in less than civil ways, it’s no wonder that many women are deciding to forfeit dating apps and hook up culture in general. I’ve written about this as well. I don’t believe men and women are naturally monogamous, but the superficiality and paradox of the plenty promoted by online dating is a huge disservice to both men and women. Men need to learn to pay homage to women, and to treat us as allies. Intimate encounters should help us to raise each others vibrations, not to lower them, as dating apps and hook up culture tend to promote.
